On 1 May, "Puño en Alto!" (raise your fist!), the first album by "La Tonia y Monotekktoni" aka Tonia Reeh, aka Monotekktoni. In keeping with the theme, completely DIY, digital and on self-burned CD and cassette.
The injustice of the post-capitalist system and the devotion to flamenco, oriental and Balkan music, always expressions of minority anger and passion, made her produce this album of total cultural appropriation, combining it with electronica and indie sounds. What a cheek! But: I feel it! Says she. With a raised fist, some are looking for a way to finally create a more just society. Nothing could express this more timelessly than the lyrics of the old Spanish resistance songs, partly from the civil war against General Franco, partly from old farm workers' protest songs.
We know that music cannot start a revolution, but this music is meant to be the soundtrack to it.
To ravishing harmonies with Tonia's very haunting vocals , which embrace the depth of many peoples' melodies, a synthesiser, sometimes a guitar and a fictional multiculti percussion combo play the accompaniment to a dance that should be danced urgently.
And it should be done now! Pronto!
